CN Tower, Toronto, Ontario

Towering over the Toronto skyline, the CN Tower is Canada’s most recognized and celebrated landmark. At a height of 553.33 metres (1,815 ft., 5 inches) it is the largest building on land in the world. Over 2 million people visit the CN Tower annually. The Sky Pod, situated high above the main observation floor, and at a height of 447 m (1,465 feet), is the highest public observation deck in the world. On a clear day visitors can expect to see across Lake Ontario to Niagara Falls and beyond. The Glass Floor and Outdoor Observation Deck is located at 342 metres (1,122 ft) and consists of thermal glass units that are 2 ½” thick. The CN Tower, built by the Canadian National Railway to demonstrate the strength of Canadian industry, the CN Tower opened to the public in 1976 and was designed to withstand an earthquake of 8.5 on the Richter Scale.
