Acton is located in south central Ontario on the Black Creek, an eventual tributary of the Credit River. Acton is often referred to as Leathertown, home of the Olde Hide House and is the last small town in the Greater Toronto area.

At the start of the 20 th century the Olde Hide House was used as a shipping and receiving warehouse for the largest tannery in the British Empire. In 1844 the very first tannery was opened. The Hide House is one of Ontario’s most popular tourist attractions with visitors coming from over 40 different countries. The historic and restored 19 th century setting of the Hide House showcases the leather industry and its relationship to the town of Acton.

Other areas of interest include Fairy Lake, a man made lake and Prospect Park, and the Conservation areas of the Halton Hills.
