Preston Ontario was originally founded by John Erb, who was born in Pennsylvania. A Mennonite of Swiss ancestry, he was awarded 7,500 acres of land in 1805 by the German Land Company. He settled and built a saw mill on the site of present day Preston.
The community, known as “Cambridge Mills” was renamed after Preston, England. The community is ideally located near the intersection of the Grand and the Speed rivers.
